在中國人的心目中，龍象徵著至高無上的權力，擁有無比崇高的地位。但在西方人眼中，龍卻是邪惡的象徵，屠龍者是英雄，是人們崇拜的對象。一正一邪本無可厚非，畢竟東西文化差異使然，然而正因為此，很多中國人不敢理直氣壯地承認龍是中國文化的象徵。更有意思的是，西方近幾年卻出現了很多可愛的龍的形象。在這種文化大背景下，趙啟光教授的《天下之龍：東西方龍的比較研究》應運而生。
趙啟光出生於書香世家，又在國外工作生活近三十年，正如錢文忠教授所說：“趙啟光教授所秉承和具備的，是中國傳統的豁然通達之情與西方科學的外在超越之思。”他對西方文化的熟稔，以及近水樓台考察的優勢，使得這本東西方龍文化的比較研究，更加深入而具有說服力，這正是國內很多作者難以企及；而他深厚的中國傳統文化根基，使得這本論著立足在了一個堅實的基礎之上，令讀者回味無窮。

作者簡介

趙啟光生於北京，獲中國社會科學院研究生院英美文學碩士學位，美國麻薩諸塞大學比較文學博士學位。現為美國卡爾頓學院終身教授，同時兼任同濟大學特聘教授、清華大學客座研究員等。
他開創了美國卡爾頓學院中國語言文學部，一直從事漢語言文學、比較文學，以及道家哲學等的教授工作。近三十年來，他一直致力於傳播中華文化，並成批地將美國學生帶回國內交流學習，極大地促成了中美文化的雙向交流。
其中文著作有《古道新理——趙啟光話講老子》、《老子的智慧》、《世路心程》、《客舟聽雨》、《康拉德小說選》等；英文著作有《中西方龍的研究》（A Study of Dragon: East and West）、《無為無不為》（Do Nothing and Do Everything）等。
