歷史沿革
1952年7月23日革命之後，埃及的大學名詞要根據國家的歷史地標來命名。1954年2月21日，大學更名為赫利奧波利斯大學（جامعةالهليوبلس）。同一年，再更名為艾因夏姆斯大學。
艾因夏姆斯大學，作為第三埃及的大學，成立於1950年7月在“易卜拉欣帕夏大學”的名稱。它參加與前兩次所大學，“開羅大學”（Fua'd1日）和“亞歷山大大學”（法魯克1日）在履行大學的訊息，並滿足青年對高等教育的需求不斷增加。當它成立之初，艾因夏姆斯大學由一批傑出的學院和學術機構，後來發展成為大學。
第23屆1952年7月的革命後，有人提出，埃及的大學給予了強烈的國家的根源和歷史名勝的名字聯繫在一起。因此在二月，1954年的21所大學的名稱改為“赫利奧波利斯”，然後在同年改為現名“艾因夏姆斯”，阿拉伯語為“赫利奧波利斯”或“O'N”，這是歷史上最古老的大學。“O'N”大學成立大約在5000年前，和它有很多著名的科學和技術學會，尤其是在天文學，工程學和醫學。世界上許多名人和科學家都在這學習過，如柏拉圖、阿基米德、普羅提諾。“O'N”教師的知識和技能的完美的例子就是印和闐（首席神父，牧師，和建築師），公元前2700年他在塞加拉用石設計了第一個大型結構建築，在歷史上稱為左瑟的階梯金字塔。 Westcar紙莎草還指出，第五王朝的創始人登基之前是“O'N”大學校長。而“O'N”大學最重要的成就是要求崇拜一個神，阿頓的太陽盤面，在阿肯那頓，誰是受之“O'N”道士思想的手中。
該大學目前設在Zaafaran宮的面積，海蒂浮伊斯梅爾政權時期建造。Zaafaran宮的命名是因周圍地區是著名的藏紅花（阿拉伯語Zaafaran）種植園。該宮被用於接待重要訪客的外交部（作為一個招待所），最初成立於1925年時，是作為埃及大學的行政辦公室。這座宮殿也見證了埃及和英國之間1936年條約的簽署。後來在1952年，被用作艾因夏姆斯大學的行政總部。

學術研究
1950年，只有8個學院：文學院、法學院、工商學院、理學院、工程學院、醫學院、農學部、女子學院。
1969年，始於1880年的師範學院成為大學的第九個學院--教育學院。
1973年，始於1835年的語言學院（Kulye Al-Alsun，كلية الألسن）成為大學的第十個學院。
