國際藝術、設計與媒體學院聯盟於1990年由赫爾辛基藝術與設計大學、倫敦皇家藝術學院與丹麥設計大學、格利特·里特維特學院、艾森綜合大學和維也納套用藝術大學發起成立。

歷史發展
在2006年法國南特召開的聯盟會議上，當時的“歐洲設計藝術院校聯盟”正式更名為“國際設計藝術院校聯盟”。中央美術學院的肖勇教授當選為聯盟執行委員會委員。2017年5月30日至6月2日，在丹麥科靈舉辦的國際設計藝術院校聯盟會議上，北京工業大學耿丹學院國際設計學院成為新會員。目前該聯盟會員覆蓋五大洲，有來自47個國家的251所院校。
2022年8月，北京印刷學院成為國際藝術、設計與媒體院校聯盟會員單位。
