吉伯特與蘇利文

吉爾伯特與沙利文（Gilbert and Sullivan）指維多利亞時代幽默劇作家威廉·S·吉爾伯特（William S. Gilbert）與英國作曲家阿瑟·薩利文（Arthur Sullivan）的合作。從1871年到1896年長達二十五年的合作中，共同創作了14部喜劇，其中最著名的為《皮納福號軍艦》（H.M.S. Pinafore）、《彭贊斯的海盜》（The Pirates of Penzance）和《日本天皇》（The Mikado）。[1]

吉爾伯特負責劇本，喜歡裝傻，愛諷刺人，一改過去歌劇嚴肅的風格，劇中將很多現實中荒誕的一面演得合情合理。沙利文比吉爾伯特年輕7歲，負責編曲，他創作了著名的旋律，[2] 將愉悅和悲傷都演繹得淋漓盡致。[3]

製作人理察·多伊利·卡特（Richard D'Oyly Carte）促成了吉爾伯特與薩利文的合作。[4]1881年，他建立了薩沃伊劇院（Savoy Theatre）來演出他們合作的作品，作品也因此被稱為薩沃伊歌劇。他還成立了多伊利·卡特歌劇團，演出推廣他們的作品長達一個世紀。

吉爾伯特與薩利文的歌劇獲得了全球的成功，如今在使用英語的國家依舊經常演出。[5]他們的合作創造了內容和形式的革新，直接影響了整個20世紀音樂劇的發展。[6]他們的歌劇還影響了政治演講、文學、電影和電視，並被幽默作家大量模仿。
