反語法

反語法(Irony)是指用相反的意義來表達實際的思想以增強幽默感、諷刺性或講話的力量的一種修辭手段。

詞義反用法

a).詞義反用法(antiphrase):即用字詞表達相反的意思;

1.This hard-working boy seldom reads more than an hour per week.這個勤奮的孩子每周讀書很少超過一小時。(hard-working這裡言與意反，實際上表達的是lazy)

2."What a noble illustration of the tender laws of this favourable country!" --Dickens

這個可敬的國家，溫和的法律，多么高尚的說服啊！--狄更斯

情景式反語

b).情景式反語(situational irony):即主要藉助於溢於文中的反語筆觸來傳達這種意味。

3.Most of the abolitionists belong to nations that spend half their annual income on weapons of war and honour research to perfect means of killing.

主張廢除死刑者大都屬於這樣一些民族，它們花費50%的年收入製造戰爭武器，擁護研究完善殺人的手段。（此處通過反語筆觸揭露了這類人的假慈悲。）
