研究方向
(1) 珊瑚礁記錄的高解析度(月、季、年、年代際)環境信息(溫度、風暴/海嘯、El Nino等);
(2) 珊瑚礁生態對環境變化的回響(珊瑚礁白化等);
(4) 海洋環境污染記錄與監測。1999年起任中國第四紀研究委員會珊瑚礁專業委員會秘書長,2008年起任中國第四紀研究委員會珊瑚礁專業委員會主任。
學術貢獻
(1)發現中全新世高溫期存在高頻率、大幅度的氣候突然變冷事件,為傳統的全新世大暖期氣候“穩定暖濕”的看法提供了新的觀點;
(2)發現了歷史時期珊瑚礁白化的證據(近200年南沙群島珊瑚礁的熱白化、7000年前雷州半島珊瑚礁的冷白化),提出了低溫導致珊瑚礁冷白化- Cold-bleaching的新概念,為現代高溫導致珊瑚礁白化研究提供了新內容;
(3)建立了南海珊瑚Sr/Ca和δ18O溫度計,提出珊瑚Mg/Ca溫度計不可靠,為深入開展我國珊瑚古氣候研究提供了溫度標尺;
(4)揭示了近1000年來南海南部的強風暴/海嘯周期, 為災害性事件發生規律的認識提供了依據;
(5)建立了近4000年來的珊瑚礁瀉湖沉積序列、測定了南海400多個樣品的高精度TIMS U-Th年代,為深入我國珊瑚礁高解析度氣候研究創造了條件;
2001年6月被評為中國科學院廣州分院、廣東省科學院優秀青年科技工作者。多次(1997年7月, 2002年7月, 2005年7月)被評為中國科學院南海海洋研究所、中國科學院廣州分院、廣東省科學院優秀共產黨員。2003年5月獲廣東省科學技術二等獎。2005年11月獲中國“第四紀研究青年科學家獎”。
