本教材擬作為《高等學校英語專業英語教學大綱》（2000版）所建議開設的英語專業知識課程板塊--“社會文化課程”中《聖經》課程用書。

該書能綜合訓練學生細讀文本和分析的能力，培養和熟悉西方的思維模式，學會使用西方現當代的語言、文化、文學和哲學理論，是一本內容豐富、操作性較強的教材。
