作者長期研究西域史和古代中外關係史、塞種、貴霜、嚈噠以及兩漢魏晉南北朝與西域關係史，在此基礎上，作者就各篇西域傳所見西域文化、宗教、習俗、制度，以及人種、語言、文字作了分門別類的研究，結集而成《兩漢魏晉南北朝正史西域傳研究》，再依據研究的結論，撰寫了《兩漢魏晉南北朝正史西域傳要注》一書，為兩漢魏晉南北朝正史西域傳有關西域的記載提供的一個系統的註解。

作者簡介
余太山先生，是著名的中亞古史研究奠基性學者。畢業於中國社會科學院研究生院歷史系，後於歷史所任職，1993年起為研究員，曾任中外關係史研究室主任。專治古代中亞史、中外關係史。現為中國社會科學院榮譽學部委員。
