“我想我終於開始成長了，尤其在上張專輯 推出後，我想讓人們知道我在搞笑同時也會幹譙。但這張專輯中我想變得嚴肅點，給人一箭穿心的乾譙，認真地看待我的不爽，而不是"他又開始無厘頭地耍嘴皮子 了"，是一張"我要開始正經了"的專輯。”Eminem的第2張大碟The Marshall Mathers LP再現個人說唱本事，先在英國金榜空降專輯榜亞軍及舞曲榜冠軍，接著在Billboard流行專輯榜上也擠下小甜甜布蘭妮的冠軍寶座並蟬聯雙周冠軍。此 時的阿姆不只是一個白人饒舌樂手，也是一個現象：儘管圍繞在他身旁的風波不斷、新聞不斷，新輯依舊在英美賣得嚇嚇叫！

當今Eminem最 為人樂道也批判的莫過於他Rap間充滿譏諷娛樂圈名人(當紅偶像布蘭妮、克莉絲汀、超級男孩、新好男孩和風波不斷的珍妮佛洛佩茲與吹牛老爹情侶檔都被點 名)、鼓吹角斗仇恨、挑釁戀族群甚至罵盡所有人(包括自己、老婆、媽媽和上帝)的詞句，有人對他恨得牙痒痒、有人則對他的大放厥詞直呼過癮。

但 無論你是“反阿姆主義”與否，連續兩屆（2000年、2001年）獲得葛萊美獎榮耀的Eminem，其角斗譏諷歌詞底下的音樂性卻也不容抹滅。正如同美國 唱片學院主席Michael Greene在第43屆葛萊美頒獎典禮上所言，音樂反映了當代的文化，也打破一般人墨守成規的觀點，提供另一種探究社會黑暗面的方法。早年，貓王、滾石合 唱團、披頭四的音樂也被父母當成洪流猛獸，我們不能因為某種音樂類型讓人不舒服就全盤抹滅它的價值。
