After reading the 8 paragraphs before, I primary [primarily] know what is mainly talked [talking about]in this article. it is about ads claim. And in paragraph 8, the author gives us six basic techniques that [what] are usually used in the ads claim. The first one is “the weasel claim”. I have no idea about it. As I know, weasel is a kind of animal. Is there any relationship between animal and ads? So I read the whole passage to get it. Exactly, the name “weasel claim” is caused by the egg-eating habits of weasels. The last sentence of paragraph 9 explains the meaning of it. It refers to that when the words or claims are analyzed, they seen [seemed]meaningful at first sight but meaningless when study deeply. Like the weasels suck out the inside of an egg, but it appeals intact on the surface. Meanwhile, this kind of ad claim is called “the weasel claim”.
In paragraph 10, the sentence made from grains and water as are other beers” puzzled me. Why the author said, “as are other beers” but not “as other beers”? is there any difference between them? In My View, the meaning of these two phrases is the same. It seems to me that the nature beer is made from grains and water just like other beers.
The next paragraph talks about “so what” claim. The first react in my mind is “so what” I think it is very cool to say that. Because when someone who says “so what” means that he or she doesn’t care the thing is mentioned for other people. Change another words, these folks don’t think the thing is important so much. So we can know that this kind of ad claim gives no real advantage [advantages]to the product. And the products are just as well as others.
It sounds that the “scientific or statistical” claim is more impressive than other kind [kinds] of claims. Because it usually uses various figures and some sort [sorts] of scientific proof [proofs] or experiment to prove the products are better. But in fact, I think there is no difference between it and others.
"compliment the consumer" claim is a kind of advertisement. I think it cheats the audience in some ways. Maybe the product and service in the advertisement is not so good in fact. They aim to make the audience happy and they will pay [spend]the money happily.
The "rhetorical question" claim is like jokes in some ways. They use the words or video to prove the product is good. But there is no evidence. When you read the claim, it will be fun.
So I think we can't pay too much attention on the claims. Otherwise you will be confused. If you will buy something, it's good to take a research on it if it is expensive.
