When a troubled teen from Cleveland experiences bullying in Cocoa Beach, he soon learns Martial Arts to gain confidence and self-defense skills.

Casting 馬修斯·齊夫 as the bully was initially met with resistance by some of the producers, who cited Ziff's handsomeness and reputation as a "good guy" as reasons to not cast him as a tough, unlikable character.
唐龍·威爾遜 initially turned the film down after it was pitched to him by his brother, producer James E. Wilson. Don was apprehensive about starring in a family film and about director Michael Baumgarten's inexperience in the action genre.

Don Wilson won Lifetime Achievement Award at The Melbourne Independent Film Festival in 2015.
Producer James E. Wilson conceived of the film as a modern update of 龍威小子 (1984). Wilson sought to present a more realistic depiction of martial arts instruction: he cited Daniel LaRusso's rapid advancement in rank and skill as particularly unlikely, and claimed that Mr. Miyagi's eccentricities would make it improbable for any parent to entrust their child to his care.
An open casting call in Cocoa Beach inspired director and co-writer Michael Baumgarten to write the Masters Spring Workout scene. All the participants working out with the masters are the people who auditioned in the open casting call.
