The Early November是來自新澤西哈蒙頓市的流行朋克樂隊，隸屬於以標榜Emo、Pop和Punk復興者的唱片公司Drive Thru的一支年輕五人組。2000年，經理Richard Reines發現了樂隊的靈魂Arthur "Ace" Enders的才能，這位二年級的小伙子編、演、唱面面俱佳，後來樂隊不斷擴充，貝斯手Sergio Anello、鼓手Jeff Kummer和吉他手Joseph Marro於2000年到2002年陸續加入，並在同年出版了處女專輯EP《For All of This》打開市場，他們所擁有的年輕人特有的激昂、真誠感染了每位聽眾，使得其也參加了Drive Thru的巡演Warped Tour's Stage。2003年，樂隊真正的專輯《Room's Too Cold 》在毫無訊息下發行，這也是Drive Thru有史以來最成功的專輯，Arthur "Ace" Enders將他的民謠、敘事才能通過他豐富嗓音表現出來。The Early November帶著這張專輯游遍了美國各地，在2004年才華已經漫溢的Arthur "Ace" Enders玩完他的solo專輯《I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business》後閉門不出，為以後的專輯積蓄力量。

《The Mother, the Mechanic, and the Path》通過戲劇的方式貫穿整個3CD。反映了一個很無奈的社會問題：就是孩子（特別是男孩）同父親之間的隔閡。主人公出生在一個很具有代表性的美國家庭：母親是家庭主婦，父親出外工作賺錢養家。平常照顧孩子同孩子交流的機會大多都是母親來完成，這就注定主角要同母親親一些，所以在歌唱母親的CD1中Arthur "Ace" Enders用細膩的感情來表現了對母親的愛和依賴；而同父親，主角看到的只是父親的早出晚歸，一星期也說不到幾句話，偶爾說說話兩個還經常話不投機，冷冷散場，主角很少叫他爸爸，而是直呼“那個機修工”，可見兩人的代溝不是幾公分那么遠，在CD2中我們經常聽到的是比較生硬、冷漠的節律；而CD3就完全成為了一張"soundtrack"，由父親同男孩的對話貫穿整個專輯，可以看出，隨著年齡的增大，男孩仿佛有些理解了父親的生活，但年輕人莫名的自尊卻經常使這種消除隔閡的機會消失。後來父親去世了，他也成家有了孩子，卻發現這種輪迴又來到了他的面前，只不過這次主角卻變成了他的孩子。CD3是在相互沉默，相互諒解中進行，有些歌曲比較感人，使我聽了不禁想起是不是也曾經這樣誤解過父親……也希望大家聽過後都能理解父親。發行過程中還有個小插曲，就是The Early November的這張3CD的專輯只交了1CD的版稅，看來老美們也對這3CD的大傢伙晃了一槍。
