羅蘭曾是於1990年代成立的演唱團體天命真女的一名成員，並因此而出名；她跟隨天命真女在全球創下銷售五千萬張專輯的紀錄。 2002年，仍為天命真女成員的羅蘭與歌手Nelly合作，寫下單曲"Dilemma"，作為Nelly專輯Nellyville 中的第二首單曲。這首單曲是當年最成功的單曲之一，為羅蘭贏得了一項葛萊美獎。
同年10月，羅蘭在美國發行她的首張個人專輯Simply Deep，這張專輯在發行後登上美國Billboard 200 排行榜第十二名，銷售超過六十萬張，被RIAA認證為金唱片。其中具流行搖滾風格的中速單曲"Stole"，在澳大利亞和英國的排行榜上都取得較好的成績。
2004年，羅蘭重新回到天命真女的團體活動中，與碧昂絲和米歇爾·威廉斯錄製了天命真女的第四張錄音室專輯Destiny Fulfilled ，於2004年11月發行。次年，天命真女開始了其Destiny Fulfilled ... And Lovin' It 世界巡迴演唱會。在巡迴演出期間，她們宣布天命真女將在北美演唱會結束後解散，成員分道揚鑣，追求各自的音樂、電影、電視事業。
2007年6月，羅蘭發行她的第二張個人專輯Ms. Kelly，這張專輯在發行後登上Billboard 熱門R&B/嘻哈專輯排行榜上第二名，在首周銷售出八萬六千張。不過在美國以外，這張專輯沒能達到首張專輯Simply Deep 的成功，在各大排行榜上均沒有進入前三十五名。
