創作背景
他在一次很糟糕的分手後寫下的這首歌。2013年，Hozier還是一個很落魄的音樂人，他晚上經常在都柏林的街頭表演。在這期間，他在父母的家中創作《Take Me To Church》，並在他們樓閣中錄製了一份很粗糙的小樣。歌曲的小樣受到了獨立唱片Rubyworks的關注，唱片公司將它介紹給了音樂製作人羅布·柯萬。羅布·柯萬發現這首歌的聲音很強大，於是幫助Hozier錄製了這首歌。
