作者簡介

達尼爾·笛福1660年出生在人倫郭一個商人家庭，父親經營屠宰業。笛福受過中等教育，信奉不屬於英國國教的長老會教派。由於家庭的影響，新教學校的教育，他二十歲時已經成為一個體面的小商人了。

他把他的一切希望都建築在他的商業活動中。他做過煙灑生意，做過內衣製作中間商，也開辦過工廠。正處在原始積累階段的英國資本主義，給他帶來了很多的好處，馬車、住房和“興高采烈的生活”。但由於他信奉的是新教，反對英國國教的統冶和壓迫，出版調刺政府的小冊子，從事政冶活動，1702年被捕入獄。後來，他又被捕過幾次，也都是因為他的言論，他辦的報紙和刊物，他出版的政冶經濟的小冊子。因此，他的一生是在不斷地入獄和破產中度過的，他始終沒能實現他的理想，成為一個大商人，成為一富翁。
