和他們的名字一樣，Refused樂隊面對政治採取了強硬的立場，作為來自瑞典的富裕的中產階級的孩子，他們毫不猶豫的站在了左派的一方，他們在唱片中宣稱，“統治階級的宣傳控制了藝術以及你的生活中的一切，我們的任務是將思考的權利還給人民，將藝術還給人民”。作為地下音樂中的激進樂隊中的一支，他們重新找回了Phil Ochs的理念，並在新的世界裡以此為武器，向社會和政府的不公正發出抗議。
