用法
other用法的注意事項：
1)泛指另一個用another。
2)一定範圍內兩人(物)，一個用one，另一個用the other。
3)一定範圍內三者，一個用one，另一個用one (another)，第三個可用the other，a third。
4)一定範圍內，除去一部分人/物，剩餘的全部用the others。
5)泛指別的人或物時，用others；當在一定範圍內，除去一部分後，剩餘部分但不是全部時，也用others。
6）any of the other+可數名詞複數。
巧記：other表其他，複數名詞在後加。
the others其餘的，剩下的，全包括。
the other另一個，總數是二，莫搞錯。
others另一些，不是全體剩幾個。
衍生詞
the other 定指其它的……，其後可接可數名詞和單數，如：
the other book 另外的一本書，
the other map 另一張地圖，
其後也可跟可數名詞的複數形式，如：
the other flowers 其他的花朵，
the other teachers 其它的老師們，
還可以接不可數名詞，如：the other water 剩下的水，the other beer 別的啤酒
This chemical is poisonous . Others are poisonous , too . ( others = other chemicals )
但是如果others前用了the ，則表示具體的別的東西。如：
I don’t want these books . Please give me the others .( the others = the other books
another，another 指另一個，沒有固定的範圍。
比如：this dress is dirty,please change another one for me.這件裙子髒了，再給我換一件吧。
名詞複數
作形容詞時，是指在原有的基礎上再加一（些），表示“再一（些）”或“另外一個（些）”的意思。 another還可作代詞，意思與作形容詞時一樣。another作形容詞時，在心理上至少有三個。 the other也是既能作形容詞，又能作代詞。但它一般用來表示總數為二時的“另外一個”，經常與one搭配。 other也能既作形容詞又可作代詞，意思是“別的，另外的”。others只能作代詞，意思是“其它的人（物或事等）”，常用來泛指。 the others也只能作代詞，意思與others相近，但常用來特指。
any other 剛指其他一切的什麼。
區別
①Some students like English and other students (others) like physics.
有些學生喜歡英語，有些學生喜歡物理。
【解析】other表示“別的”，“另外的”，只能與複數名詞連用。但other前有冠詞the即可與單數名詞連用。如：
I have two pens. One is blue. The other (pen) is black.
我有兩枝鋼筆。一支是藍色的，另一支是黑色的。
②John did better than all the other players in the sport.
在那項運動中John比所有別的運動員都出色。
【解析】the other加複數名詞指的是一定範圍內“所有其餘的人或事物”，是特指；而other加複數名詞卻是沒有明確範圍的“另外的人或事物”。如：
We must think more of other comrades.
我們必須多想想別的同志。
③ This shirt is too large for me. Please show me another.
這件襯衫我穿太大。請另外拿一件我看看。（一般商店不會只有兩件襯衫）
【解析】another, the other作代詞的用法。The other表示“兩個數量中的另一個”，表示特指，總數為倆；another表示“總數為三個以上中任意的另一個”，表示泛指。如：
His parents both work in a hospital. One is a doctor and the other is a nurse.
他父母都在一家醫院工作。一個是醫生，一個是護士。（父母為兩個人）
其他習慣用法one another, from one…to another, the other day = a few days ago，every other
day/ week/year， some…, others…，如：
I met Mr. Smith in the park the other day.
前幾天我在公園裡碰見了Smith先生。
While at the university, he went to the library every other day.
在大學時他每隔一天去圖書館一次。
Some people like football, others like volleyball.

other指另外的人或物；other泛指別人，可與some連用；the other 指兩個中的另一個，常和one連用；the others表示其餘所有的人或物；another則泛指另一個。
做形容詞
other 可以做形容詞，表示其他的，比如other people其他的人。
也可以做代詞，但是做代詞時一般不以原形出現，一般用以"the other"或者以複數形式“others”出現。
others
和some對比使用時, 是“有些”的意思而不是做“其他”講, 如:Some cleaned the windows, others mopped the floor. 有的擦窗戶, 有的擦地板。
the others
是“其餘的”意思, 表示在一個範圍內的其他全部, 如: This dictionary is better than the others. 這本字典比別[其餘]的好。
the other
是其中的“另一個” 如:Give me the other one; not this one. 給我那一個, 不是這一個。
兩個中的“另一個”是“the other”; 不定數目中的“另一個”是“another” , 如:This glass is broken. Get me another. 這個杯子壞了, 給我另拿一個來。(在許多杯子中的一個)
others ,the others，other,the other和another other及其變化形式在國中教材中多次出現，而且它的變化形式很多，有以下幾種：the other, others, the others, another 等。它們的用法現歸納如下；
other
other可作形容詞或代詞，做形容詞時，意思是“別的，其他”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”。如： Do you have any other question(s)? 你還有其他問題嗎？ Ask some other people. 問問別人吧！ Put it in your other hand. 把它放在你另一隻手裡。單數
the other
the other指兩個人或物中的一個時二分之一,，只能用the other，不能用another，此時的other作代詞。如：
He has two daughters. One is a nurse, the other is a worker.
他有兩個女兒，一個是護士，另一個是工人。
the other後可加單數名詞，也可加複數名詞，此時的other作形容詞。如：
On the other side of the street，there is a tall tree.
在街道的另一邊，有一棵大樹。
Mary is much taller than the other girls.
瑪麗比其他的女孩高得多。
He lives on the other side of the river.
他住在河的對岸。
others
others是other的複數形式，泛指“另外幾個”，“其餘的”。在句中可作主語、賓語。如：
Some of us like singing and dancing, others go in for sports.
我們一些人喜歡唱歌和跳舞，其餘的從事體育活動。
Give me some others, please.
請給我別的東西吧！
There are no others.
沒有別的了。
the others
the others意思是“其他東西，其餘的人”。特指某一範圍內的“其他的（人或物）”。是the other的複數形式。如：
Two boys will go to the zoo, and the others will stay at home.
兩個男孩將去動物園，其餘的留在家裡。
the others=the other +複數名詞，這在第2條中已經有所介紹。
another
another=an+ other，既可作形容詞，也可作代詞，只能用於三個或更多的人或物，泛指同類事物中的三者或三者以上的“另一個”，大於等於三分之一，只能代替或修飾單數可數名詞。如：
I don’t like this one. Please show me another.
我不喜歡這一個，請給我看看另一個。
I have three daughters. One is a nurse, another is a teacher and another is a worker.
我有三個女兒。一個是護士，另一個是教師，還有一個是工人。
