Leonard M.Adleman出生於1945年12月31日於加州, Adleman分別於1968年和1976年從加州Berkeley獲得其數學學士學位和EECS的博士學位。

Leonard M.Adleman獲得2002年圖靈獎，以表彰其使得公鑰密（RSA）技術在實際中可用的創造性貢獻。

1994年，Leonard M.Adleman發表了其著名的DNA計算的研究文章--“Molecular Computation of Solutions To Combinatorial Problems"。在該篇文章中，Adleman通過DNA序列的方法來解決著名的NP完全性問題Hamilton Graph。開創了DNA計算這門學科的先河。
