Julian has been anchoring and reporting for Culture Express since joining CCTV-News in 2011. He has also anchored for News Update, the hourly news program. Julian has interviewed a wide range of notable personalities in film, TV and literature. His unique multicultural sensibility brings a fresh, truthful and multifaceted exposé of subjects from contemporary pop music to opera, and from ballet to people living with disabilities.
Julian graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Film Studies and French. Upon graduation, he studied film and art at the Sorbonne in Paris. He also holds a Master of Arts in Film, TV and New Media from the UCLA film school.
Born to parents of Chinese origin, Julian grew up in the United States. He was interested in biology and medicine, and exhibited a scientific rigor since childhood. His neuroscience research at California Institute of Technology won him many honors including the California Young Scientist of the Year Award when he was still in high school.
Growing up in a family of painters, photographers, writers, dancers and singers, Julian is very eclectic and gifted in the arts. He studied acting with Gregory Berger-Sobeck from Yale Drama School as well as with renowned acting coaches Catlin Adams and Delia Salvi. He worked in many areas of film and TV production before joining China Central Television.
Julian believes that understanding begins with culture and in using media to bridge differences, but highlight and keep alive what makes us all unique.
