Jérome Franck
Deputy General Director of Que Choisir (France)
Jérome FRANCK was appointed Deputy General Director of UFC-Que Choisir on 1st January 2012 and will succeed Jean-Louis REDON who retires at the end of June. Consumer law specialist, Jérome FRANCK, joined the Paris Bar in 1994 and for almost 20 years has been a lawyer for several consumer organisations, including UFC-Que Choisir. He also taught European consumer law at Paris XII (Jean Monnet at Sceaux) Law University. For many years, he was a member of "European Consumer Law Group", think tank in charge of making some proposals and suggestions to the European Commission, as regards consumer policy. He is a member of the "European Journal of Consumer Law" Scientific Comity. He has also been involved in many projects at national and European levels, in consumer law field.
Bart Combée has been President of Consumentenbond since 2009 and was appointed Chairman of ICRT in March 2012. He graduated as an economist at Erasmus University, Rotterdam. In his professional career Bart has held executive positions in both profit and non-profit organisations. Amongst others, he was commercial director at AVR, the largest waste collection firm in the Netherlands at that time. Most recently he was director West Netherlands at Viataal, a non-profit organisation that offers education and health care for handicapped people. He was also member of the City Council of Rotterdam from 1994-1998. In all these activities, entrepreneurship toward achieving civic goals was his main aim.
Benoît Plaitin
Managing Director, Euroconsumers Group (Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil)
Benoit Plaitin became Managing Director of the Euroconsumers Group and Director of the Belgian consumer organisation, Test Achats, in 2009. He graduated as a Civil Engineer and started his career in industry organising the management of the supply chain and production. After an experience in the areas of marketing and selling of products in the B2B and B2C environments, he had extensive experience in the development and implementation of e-business projects for multinational companies. From 2002 he was an independent consultant for various consumer organisations.
James A. Guest
President & CEO, Consumer Reports (United States)
Mr. Guest became president and chief executive officer of Consumer Reports in February 2001 after a long career in public service and the consumer interest, including 21 years as Chair of its Board of Directors. During his tenure, Mr. Guest has transformed Consumer Reports into a multimedia publisher with a wide variety of digital offerings, including Consumer Reports Mobile, the Consumer Reports Mobile Shopper, which allows consumers to scan a bar code to get information at the point of sale, and versions of the magazine and its content for e-readers and tablets. Under his leadership, the organization has also launched several new initiatives including ShopSmart, a shopping magazine targeted at women; the Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center, which develops ratings for services like doctors, hospitals, and drugs; and a grassroots capability that has mobilized hundreds of thousands of concerned citizens to help pass landmark health and safety laws. In 2009, Mr. Guest oversaw Consumer Reports' acquisition of The Consumerist, an edgy consumer-empowerment and social media site with approximately three million visitors. He has also been a strong leader in the international consumer movement, and is the current President (Board Chair) of Consumers International, the global federation of more than 220 organizations from 115 countries that serves as the independent and authoritative global voice for consumers. CI's mission is to build a powerful international movement to help protect and empower consumers everywhere. Mr. Guest's public service career has spanned more than four decades. After graduating from Harvard Law School and completing a Woodrow Wilson fellowship in economics at MIT, he worked as legislative assistant to Senator Ted Kennedy. In the early 1970s, Mr. Guest moved to Vermont where he served as Banking and Insurance Commissioner, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Development and Community Affairs. Over the last 20 years, he has headed several public policy and advocacy groups including Handgun Control Inc. and the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, as well as Planned Parenthood of Maryland. He was also the founding Executive Director of the American Pain Foundation, a national consumer information, education, and advocacy organization for pain prevention and management. Mr. Guest credits his first job for introducing him to one of his biggest influences in consumer advocacy. He worked as the paperboy for Dr. Colston Warne--one of the founders of Consumer Reports and Consumers International and a pioneering leader in the national and international consumer movements.
Peter Vicary-Smith
Chief Executive, Which? (United Kingdom)
Peter Vicary-Smith has been Chief Executive of Which? since May 2004. Before joining Which?, he worked in both the commercial and charitable sectors. He has worked at Procter and Gamble, Mars and was a management consultant at McKinsey for three years. In 1991 he became Head of Appeals at Oxfam, where he was responsible for all of the central fundraising. Five years later he joined the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) as the Director of Fundraising and Communications. Peter also played a major role in ICRF's merger with the Cancer Research Campaign – the largest ever merger in the voluntary sector. In 2002, he became the Commercial Director at Cancer Research UK.
Hubertus Primus became Chief Executive Officer of Stiftung Warentest in January 2012. He first joined Stiftung Warentest as a journalist with Finanztest in 1990 and was promoted to Editor-in-Chief in 1993. In 1999 he became the Editor-in-Chief of Stiftung Warentest's other magazine test and Head of the Publications Division, as well as a member of the Executive Management Board. He is a qualified lawyer, journalist and manager, with widespread journalistic experience in legal and financial issues, having worked for renowned German publications such as "Rechtsmagazin für die Wirtschaft", "Industriemagazin" and the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".
Guido Adriaenssens
Chief Executive, ICRT (Brussels & London)
Guido Adriaenssens has been Chief Executive Officer of ICRT since 1999. He has also been Director and Treasurer at the Board of EuroNCAP (New Car Assessment Programme (crashworthiness testing of cars) since 2001 and is co-founder of Latin NCAP and Trustee of Global NCAP. He worked for many years for the Belgian consumer organisation in the fields of health, environment and product testing. He has a degree in Clinical Chemistry and a Masters in Biomedical Sciences and, before moving into the consumer world, he spent some time in the pharmaceutical industry and food laboratories. He has published several studies on Drug Prices in Europe.
Andrea Klag
Research Manager and Regional Co-ordinator (London)
Andrea is responsible for managing the Regions Team, the coordination of the Central and Eastern European and the Asia Pacific Group, running the CSR working group and is Topic Leader for Domestic Appliances. She is also managing projects funded by the European Commission, such as Capacity Building in Consumer Organisations in the New Member States. Andrea has German nationality, is fluent in English, German and French and has a degree as Diplom-Ingenieur for Domestic Appliances and Food Technology. She has more than 20 years of experience in research and development, standardisation and comparative consumer testing. Andrea started her career in ICRT in 2002 by establishing the Nordic Test Group.
Benjamin Kusah
Financial Controller/Finance Manager (London)
Benjamin joined ICRT in May 2007 and is responsible for finance and manages ICRT's relationship with its Tax and Financial advisors, Bankers and HM Revenue & Customs. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession (ACCA), holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Portsmouth and a Masters degree in Finance and Investments from Durham Business School, where he graduated with a distinction. Prior to joining ICRT, Benjamin worked for UK Sport, Lloyds TSB (voluntary), Cable and Wireless Access (formerly Bulldog Communications) and National Savings & Investments.
Christine De Geest
Management Assistant (Brussels)
Christine is responsible for the CEO's diary, ICRT travel and meeting arrangements, updating the Laboratory Database and is the ICRT contact for the Brussels office. She has a background in accounts and public relations and joined the Belgian consumer organisation, Test Achats, in 1981 as Management Assistant to the Finance Director. Christine joined ICRT in 1999.
Davide Simone Nardi
International Development Manager (London)
Davide joined the ICRT Secretariat in May 2011. He is responsible for ICRT international development strategy with the aim to develop global projects and implement capacity building programs for less affluent consumer organisations worldwide. Davide is graduated in International Relations and specialized in Asian Politics with an MSc at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. As a partnerships and fundraising professional, Davide has worked in the Human Rights movement since 2002 with local and international NGOs including the Secretariat of Amnesty International. Davide works also for BEUC, The European Consumer Organisation in Brussels identifying synergies between the two consumer organisations.
Kim Healy
Deputy Chief Executive & Senior Research Co-ordinator (London)
Kim is responsible for ICRT Planning, co-ordination of the ICRT Management Committee (MaCo) Meetings, running the IT, Database & Publications Team, editing ICRT News and is Topic Leader for Food, Health & Environment. She has a degree in History and has worked in consumer comparative testing for over 30 years, as a Project Officer supervising joint tests at Which? and also as a freelancer specialising in environmental and energy topics. Kim has been involved with ICRT since it began in 1990, managing the first EC funded project and compiling the first set of ICRT Guidelines. She became Deputy CEO in 1996.
Nick Amstutz
Research & Cost Sharing Manager (London)
Nick is responsible for handling ICRT joint test project costs, manages the ICRT Product Evaluation Database and is Topic Leader for High-Tech and Energy. An Engineer by training, he entered the Consumer movement 25 years ago as a Technologist in a UK product testing laboratory. He joined Which? magazine as a Project Officer in 1990, where he wrote and researched reports on a wide range of products and services, leaving in 1997 to pursue a freelance career. Nick joined ICRT in 2005.
Nicole Bernefeld
Regional Co-ordinator & Research Manager (London)
Nicole began working with ICRT in 2006 as a Project Manager for an EC project. She now works as a regional co-ordinator for Scandinavia, Latin- America and Africa promoting joint tests throughout the regions. She is also responsible for the international Market Research and is Topic Leader for Personal Care, Leisure, and Video & Photo. Nicole is an industrial engineer and holds a Diploma with a specialisation in International Trade & Payment processes. Prior to joining ICRT, Nicole worked for engineering companies in Germany and Spain.
Nigel Messenger
Database & IT Manager (London)
Nigel is responsible for the ICRT Database including access, hard and software problems, ICRT Website, ICRT Database Address Book, plus actively involved in developing new services. He has worked in the IT industry since 1983, and has previously worked for Audits of Great Britain, Fedex UK, and Grand Metropolitan/Diageo. Nigel's employment with ICRT commenced in 2000, and until 2008 was the sole IT resource.
Qamar Khan
IT Support & Development Manager (London)
Qamar joined ICRT in May 2008, he is responsible for the IT infrastructure both within ICRT and the services delivered to members. His responsibilities include optimising and maintaining the data centre resources, and providing IT solutions for both hardware and software related issues. Qamar has a degree in Computer Science specialising in software development. He has worked for a number of small to medium size companies developing web applications on a wide variety of platforms.
