Homebush Station
Homebush railway station is an intermediate station on the main South Line of Sydney's CityRail system in the suburb of Homebush, Australia. It is located where six tracks reduce to four, and is served mainly by Southern line trains, western line trains passing through non stop. There are five platforms, of which only three are regularly used by stopping trains. A freight line also passes through the station without a platform. On 11 April 1994, a large fire destroyed the original heritage-listed buildings on platforms 3 and 4,they were later rebuilt as a simpler structure.
Under the Clearways project, an additional southern line platform is to be provided, with tracks rearranged to create a "centre turnback platform". This turnback will enable all stations inner west trains to be terminated efficiently, with the inner west trains sharing one pair of tracks with southern line trains.
During the Sydney 2000 Olympics the station was closed to avoid confusion for visitors to Sydney with the nearby Olympic Park station. (Olympic Park was located in Homebush Bay)
