一切開始於1991年的一個Georgetown的大學生聚會。Keith Kane在一個當地的俱樂部每周演奏一些爵士樂，在聚會上他遇見了Matt Scannell。當時他是Fallout Shelter樂隊的一名成員。Keith Kane邀請Matt Scannell一起在俱樂部演奏爵士樂。一個小時的練習，Vertical Horizon演奏了他們的第一首樂曲。VerticalHorizon就這樣誕生了。
