Mr. Big(大人物合唱團)成立於1988年，樂風承襲范海倫合唱團的硬式搖滾，團名取自Paul odgers領導的英籍團體Free在1970年的一首歌，該歌曲就叫“Mr.Big”。
在80年代末所湧現的一大批重金屬樂隊中，Mr. Big 算是比較有特色的一支的。他們玩的既非暴風驟雨的 Thrash Metal ，也非旋律悅耳的 Pop Metal ，他們在傳統的重金屬中加入了較重的布魯斯樂的成份，但又非是哀怨的；同時，他們也是重金屬樂隊中為數不多的能唱民謠的樂隊，因此，與其他的重金屬樂隊相比，他們的音樂顯得心平氣和、乾乾淨淨，富於技巧變化，曲子的音樂性很強且富有整體感。
Mr. Big來自芝加哥，樂隊的創始人是 Billy Sheehan，曾經在 David Lee Roth 樂隊當過貝斯手，在經歷了一系列風雨後，與 Eric Martin（vocals）, Paul Gilbert（guitar）, 和 Pat Torpey（drums）一起組建了 Mr. Big 。吉它是他們最大的優勢----因為有了P aul Gilbert，Paul Gilber t的吉他水平在80年代出現的一大批吉他手中是屬於出類拔萃的。
樂隊在1989年推出了首張同名專輯，但專輯水準和反響只可說是一般。
1991年，樂隊推出第二專輯《Lean Into It》。直到1992年的時候，專輯中的一首民謠風格的單曲 “To Be With You” 登上了Billboard單曲榜的榜首，專輯因此水漲船高，很快賣出了白金的銷量，Mr. Big 開始為更多的聽眾所接受。平心而論，《Lean Into It》比上張同名專輯水準高了不少。
1993年，樂隊推出第三專輯《Bump Ahead》，《Bump Ahead》是 Mr. Big 所有作品中最出色的一張，特別值得一提的是 Eric Martin 的演唱，他那優雅而又溫婉的風格是其他重金屬歌手身上找不到的。當然，Paul Gilbert 凌厲的吉他技法也為專輯增色不少，人們開始稱呼他為“光速吉他手”。
1996年，樂隊推出第四張專輯《Hey Man》，但此時的樂壇重金屬已是江河日下，儘管樂隊在專輯中減少了重金屬的份量，並適度增加了慢歌的比重，歌曲也做的更流行了，可無奈時不予我，1996年到底不是5年前，《Hey Man》在評論和銷售上都沒有取得好的成績，不過在日本，Mr. Big 還是挺受歡迎的。
同年，Mr. Big 宣布解散，Atlantic 公司為樂隊推出了一張名為《Big Better Best/The Best Of Mr. Big》的精選專輯；1998年，唱片又推出一張樂隊在 Hard Rock 餐廳的現場演出專輯。樂隊核心人物 Paul Gilbert（guitar）離開樂隊之後，也推出過幾張不錯的個人專輯。
但另我們欣慰的是 Mr. Big 解散不久後，樂隊剩下的三位成員找來曾在 Poison 樂隊1993年專輯《Native Tongue》中擔任吉他手一職的 Richie Kotzen ，重組了 Mr. Big ，Richie Kotzen 對於 Blues 音樂的領悟能力好過 Paul Gilbert，雙方合作的結晶就是1999年專輯《Get Over It》。
2001年，Mr. Big 再次推出新專輯《Actual Size》。

When the family settled in San Francisco in 1976,Martinformed the band415with some high school friends. The band became a popular local draw, eventually opening for acts likeBilly Squier,Molly Hatchet, andthe Marshall Tucker Band, while still an unsigned act. Signed toElektra Records,415changed its name toEric Martin Bandand issued the debutSucker for a Pretty Facein 1983. Despite continuing to land high-profile gigs as support for some of the most popular acts at the time, such asNight RangerandJourney, the album received a fairly tepid reception and the band split up in 1985.Martincontributed the track"I Can't Stop the Fire"to the movie soundtrackTeachersand released a self-titled solo album in 1985, which spawned a minorpophit with"Information."In 1988,Martinjoined forces with bass playerBilly Sheehan, guitaristPaul Gilbert, and drummerPat Torpeyto formMr. Big. 故事猹始於1997年，這一年就是加州搖滾四人組『大人物合唱團』團員展開自我探索的一年。那一年冬天，他們在日本演唱了兩場電視特別節目之後，為了休養生息，便各自收拾起包袱，和平的走上四個不同的方向。
「我們需要一個很大的突破。」主唱兼吉他手Eric Martin說，「我知道我們必須停止演出一陣子，我們已經巡迴演唱了很久，應該花一點時間陪伴家人，而且我們還想嘗試一些新的事情。」 Eric口中所謂「新的事情」，意指他在1998年發行的個人專輯「Somewhere In The Middle」之外，同時他還為電視影集「為你瘋狂」的原聲帶「Music From and Inspired by the Television Series Mad About You」貢獻了一首新曲I Love the Way You Love Me。 直到有一天，他們的電話響起了，Eric回憶道∶「我打電話給Billy，然後說∶『你知道嗎?我們應該再做一次，我好想念演唱搖滾樂，讓我們再回到從前吧！』」
