迪士尼的影像若是少了音樂，就如同畫布少了油彩一般，無論如何也無法揮灑出斑斕色彩的。正因為音樂的重要性，邀請名家譜寫主題曲或配樂，便成為迪士尼在呈現各式劇作時不可或缺的一環。而事實上，耀眼如流行樂壇巨星艾爾頓強、菲爾柯林斯的幕前演唱陣容，以及堅強如漢斯季默、提姆萊斯的幕後製作陣容，不僅是銷售數量與品質的保證，亦正是令迪士尼的音樂作品屢屢在奧斯卡金像獎以及金球獎上叱吒風雲的重要因素。
從30年代《白雪公主》、40年代的《小鹿斑比》到50年代的《睡美人》，迪士尼音樂幾乎在每個年代，皆留下了獲得奧斯卡肯定的經典代表作，而60年代由茉麗克魯絲所演的音樂電影《歡樂滿人間》，更是囊括奧斯奧卡最佳電影配樂、最佳電影歌曲、最佳女主角、最佳音效等大獎，迪士尼的音樂勢力也從此時間始更形壯大。踏入70年代，迪士尼繼續以《小飛象》、《羅賓漢》等電影音樂叱咤樂壇，而從80年代末期的《小美人魚》開始，迪士尼更因《美人與野獸》、《阿拉丁》、《獅子王》、《風中奇緣》、《玩具總動員》等在金獎與金球獎上大有收穫，而且上述電影的主題曲受歡迎的程度，即使用家喻戶曉來形容也不為過。
借著六十周年的機會（迪士尼公司成立於1923年，動畫工作室於1934年開始獻身於動畫電影長片），迪士尼特別自1995年起企劃推出了《Classic Disney:60 Years Of Musical Magic》系列合輯，收錄的曲目可說涵蓋了迪士尼歷年來所有暢銷電影的主題曲與插曲——由早期的經典片《小鹿斑比》、《小姐與流氓》、《仙履奇緣》、《小飛象》、《羅賓漢》，到90年代賣座電影《風中奇緣》、《玩具總動員》、《鐘樓怪人》、《聖誕領先驚魂》、《飛天巨桃》等，就連難得一聞的迪士尼樂團遊行配樂也收錄其中。
該系列由5張碟組合而成，每張碟各有25首歌曲，並分別於1995年到1998年發行過CD光碟和磁帶。各專輯的發行時間分別是1995年3月28日（紅色封面）、1995年9月12日（藍色封面）、1996年7月2日（綠色封面）、1997年7月15日（紫色封面）、1998年9月12日（橙色封面）。2000年，1-3碟的套裝版本1-3專輯發行；2001年，1-4碟的套裝版本發行；2003年，五碟整套的套裝珍藏版於澳洲、日本、北美和歐洲發行。
迪士尼緊接著這一系列發行了Disney's Greatest Hits系列，包括三張碟，從2001年到2002年分別發行。儘管與Classic Disney非常相似，都是收錄了迪士尼歷來的經典歌曲，但相比Classic Disney的一碟25首歌曲，Disney's Greatest Hits的每張碟卻只有20。但Disney's Greatest Hits系列中收錄了Classic Disney發行後於1999年到2002年期間上映的迪士尼電影的歌曲。
