早年經歷

CHARA出生成長於日本的埼玉縣川口市。她的藝名Chara來自國小時代的老師給她的外號，日語chara-chara是輕率而不經思考的意思。在她的早期生活中，當地的金屬工業工廠和80年代的工業藝術家們都為她未來的生涯留下了印記。

她對音樂的興趣來自小時候的鋼琴課。Chara的母親在她很小的時候就強迫她去上這些課程。

但是不久，Chara對課堂里的那些發生厭倦，轉而寫自己的音樂，主旨大都是對愛的渴望以及美好生活的嚮往。當時主要影響她的是美國音樂人Prince以及電影明星碧姬芭杜（Brigitte Bardot）。

在朋友諸如Yusuke Asada的幫助之下，Chara持續著她對音樂的熱情，她在東京一邊打工一邊創作音樂，一直到1990年正式進入音樂界。

演藝經歷

當Chara才兩歲還在學說話時，已經是位對音樂十分敏感的女孩。於是她的父母買了一個玩具鋼琴給她。四歲時她就開始學真正的鋼琴。國小一年級時，她發表了第一首創作的歌曲《SAYONARA》。

16歲時，Chara開始參與樂團活動並擔任的Keyboard手；20歲時，她決意要自己演唱自己寫的歌詞，進而轉擔任主唱。兩年後，Chara被唱片公司發掘，成為日本Sony旗下的藝人，並在1991年以一首單曲《Heaven》正式沖入樂壇，同年11月推出首張專輯《SWEET》。

1992年Chara的第2張專輯《Soul Kiss》推出便打入Oricon榜第14位，並勇奪該年日本唱片大賞的專輯新人賞!之後受邀參加多方廣告的演出，並主唱其廣告曲。在實力被肯定的情況下，1993年她的第3張專輯《Violet Blue》與1994年的第4張專輯《Happy Toy》，都分別榮登Oricon榜第4位。證明了Chara的歌曲有她獨特的個人魅力。

1995年3月Chara突然與淺野忠信閃電結婚，就在結婚當天，倆人手牽手在東京涉谷街上，一邊交換戒指、一邊哼起了結婚進行曲。浪漫地完成她的終身大事。

1996年Chara憑電影《燕尾蝶》奪得日本電影大賞的最佳女主角獎。而該劇主題曲《愛之歌》，更創下了百萬銷售佳績，為Chara開啟了另一個新時代。該影片導演岩井俊二曾在公開場合中表示他最欣賞的女歌手是Chara，更表示他是Chara忠實歌迷，擁有她所有的專輯。

到了1997年經過廣告、電影等各方面的洗禮，恰拉已經不再只是唱歌的恰拉。而是位全方位的巨星，'97年4月推出抒情佳作《溫柔的心情》，便打入單曲排行TOP7，此單曲更榮獲MTV JAPAN 觀眾票選最佳音樂錄像帶獎。接下來的《Time Machine》，也在日本銷售極佳。這2首單曲都被資生堂選為廣告曲，充分表現出恰拉甜美略帶慵懶的濃郁個人氣息。但自1994/10推出了第四張專輯《Happy Toy》之後，就一直遲遲不見蹤影，直到1997/09，在整整讓歌迷等了三年之後，專輯《Junior Sweet(甜甜蜜蜜)》終於推出。此時的恰拉以一位全方位巨星，加上獨特嗓音、實力兼備的特質，立刻勇奪ORICON專輯榜冠軍，銷售突破百萬！

一直專心做最好音樂的恰拉，98年推出了DUCA（7月）、光與我（10月），還有1999年2月推出的『70%─黃昏之歌』。對於專輯的醞釀更是不假他人，不停琢磨精益求精，1999年3月推出全新力作〝STRANGE FRUITS奇異果〞，這又令歌迷等了1年6個月之久。

2000年，Chara在樂迷期盼之下，推出了雙CD《Chara Live 97-99 Mood》，一共收錄了97年《JUNIOR SWEET TOUR》，98年《"DUCA" & THE AURORA BAND》， 99年《STRANGE FRUITS THE LIVE》，以及99年10月27日在NHK HALL舉辦的《STRANGE FRUITS THE CONCERT》長達三年的四次巡迴、共61場次的所有演唱過的曲目中，由Chara親自挑選的19首最精彩的現場演唱曲。

感情生活

1995年，chara和淺野忠信結婚，婚後兩人一直是眾人羨慕的模範夫妻，沒有任何緋聞。淺野忠信是日本著名演員，主演過《座頭市》等大量影視作品。2009年7月25日，他們卻突然在各自官方網站公布離婚訊息，讓人大吃一驚，chara新曲歌詞還暗示丈夫有出軌行為。
