Asquith Station

Asquith railway station is a railway station on the Main North Line of the CityRail network. It is located in the Sydney suburb of Asquith. The station is served by two trains per hour in each direction for most of the day, with additional trains during weekday peak hours.

Most of the trains serving Asquith travel via the North Shore line even though the station appears as if it belongs on the Northern line. A few Central Coast trains stop for the convenience of schoolchildren.

Asquith has two side platforms. The platforms can easily accommodate suburban trains however are unable to fit the 8-car intercity services and only the rear 7 carriages are accessible.

History

Asquith Railway Station c1957Asquith railway station opened on 1 November 1915, in conjunction with a land development by R. Halloran & Company. It was named after the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Herbert Henry Asquith, Earl of Oxford and Asquith. Asquith was the last railway station to open between Hornsby and the Hawkesbury River.

Platforms/Service

Platform 1:

North Shore Line - Trains to Central via Chatswood that then continue along the Western Line to Blacktown, Penrith, Emu Plains, Riverstone and Richmond.

Platform 2:

North Shore Line - Mount Colah, Mt. Ku-Ring-Gai, then Berowra

Route 592 - Limited service to Brooklyn and Mooney Mooney

Route 593 - South to Hornsby station, North to Parklands Road

Route 595 - South to Hornsby station, North to Mount Colah

Route 597 - South to Hornsby station, North to Berowra station and Berowra Heights

NightRide buses do not extend past Hornsby.
