On her deathbed, the mother-in-law (Seema Deo) of Anu (Shabana Azmi) asks her to promise that she will look after her young son, Ram (Master Bittu) like her own. Anu promises, and her mother-in-law passes away. Shortly after the demise of her mother-in-law, Shyamlal (Navin Nischal) and Anu become proud parents of a healthy baby boy. With her own son to look after and bestow her love and affection on, will Anu be able to keep her promise to her late mother-in-law?
