比喻最先受到攻擊或遭遇災害。

首：最先。當：面對，對著。沖：要衝，交通要道。（還有一種說法認為，“沖”字應當理解為“戰車，攻敵、攻城的戰車。”類似於坦克，步兵躲在其後面。對於對方來說，首先面對它的人，當然要面臨巨大的危險。）

出處

“首當其衝”原為“當其沖”，出自《漢書·五行志上》：“鄭以小國攝乎晉、楚之間，重以強吳，鄭當其沖，不能修德，將斗三國，以自危亡。”意思是說鄭國是個小國，身處晉、楚、吳三個大國之間，處境十分困難，一旦國與國之間有衝突，首先要遭殃的就是鄭國。

動賓式；作謂語、定語。
