雅浦語的發展

1888年，西班牙傳教士Fr. Ambrosio de Valencina在馬尼拉發布的第一本雅浦語語法書籍就包含著第一套雅浦語拼寫字母系統。這套拉丁字母拼寫系統直到1972年還在使用，後來雅浦人正字法委員會提出了一個新的拼寫系統，與之前的拼寫系統沒有大的變化，除了增加了喉塞音q的使用.

雅浦語受到了德語，西班牙語、日語、英語的影響，可以說是是帝國主義殖民的產物。雅浦語在密克羅西亞聯邦的雅浦州享有官方語言地位。
