劇情簡介
T.馬林經紀公司的核心辦公室被員工們稱之為“鍋爐房”。可不要小看這個地方——在這裡一夜能誕生20個百萬富翁！正是在這間“鍋爐房”里，鬥志激昂的年輕的經紀人們通過電話為深深信賴他們的買主兜售股票，幫他們炒股。而他們所得到的報酬是豪華公寓、法拉利和更多連他們自己都想像不到的奢華禮物。在長島這片平凡無奇的土地上，在無數經紀公司的“鍋爐房”中，X一代正以驚人的速度實現著他們的夢想，只是有的時候他們離法律僅僅一步之遙……
19歲的賽斯·戴維斯原本是個再普通不過的人。他的一生中只有兩個夢想：他希望自己將來能掙上一百萬；又因為從小父親就一直看不起他，所以他希望什麼時候自己能讓父親另眼相看，變得尊重自己。到底如何才能實現這兩個夢想呢？一開始賽斯打算靠跟別人玩一種非法紙牌來起家，可是他很快就發現這條路根本行不通。最後他決定走一條合法的道路：加入J.T.馬林經紀公司去做一名經紀人，因為公司承諾會給提供他一條“最為快捷的成功之路”。
成為“鍋爐房成員”看起來的確是一個令人羨慕的職業。賽斯每天身著西服，廢寢忘食地工作，很快便以優異的成績通過了股票經濟人認證考試。他整日忙得如飛轉的陀螺，在不斷給客戶打電話、不斷地計算與操作、不斷地招徠新客戶的過程中，賽斯最初的夢想——銀行里的存款與作一個好兒子的願望——似乎都在實現……
很快賽斯就以他的聰明與業績在同事中出類拔萃，就連當初剛入門時負責指導他的老師格萊格都開始對他心懷妒意。他也開始與公司的接待戴碧約會。而隨著金錢欲望的加深，如同“鍋爐房”里的每個人一樣，賽斯貪婪的胃口也變得越來越大——他開始矇騙對他一直深信不疑的投資者，賣給對方的其實是他們根本不需要的股票，自己從中牟取暴利。
然而當賽斯看到他的同事們變得越來越富有，而那些無辜的客戶們卻越來越窮困的時候，他的良心讓自己無法再沉默下去。同時，他也開始懷疑J.T.馬林經紀公司本身進行著不可告人的非法操作。面對聯邦調查局的合作要求，賽斯意識到自己正面臨著失去一切的危險——他不僅可能失去自己的好友、自己的工作以及公司承諾給他的百萬薪酬，甚至還有父親的信任！究竟是聽從良心的呼喚還是繼續昔日沉醉骯髒的生活？賽斯在善與惡間徘徊不定……
