《醫學英語學術交流教程》共8個單元。每個單元均包含視聽說、閱讀和口語三部分。
視聽說選取各種國際會議和學術交流的音視頻資料，幫助學生提升聽力水平；設計相關問題，提供學生進行口語表達的機會。
閱讀文章2篇：Text A為精讀材料，Text B為泛讀材料。材料均選自國際醫學學術期刊、書籍或醫學網站上的英文文章，強化學生的文獻閱讀能力、提升辭彙學習效率的同時，通過課後練習，引入group discussion和oral presentation，讓學生能就問題展開討論並獨立表達觀點。
口語分為：臨床問診英語口語，以診室語境為背景，提高學生英語問診能力；國際會議英語口語，以國際學術會議為綱，涉及會議整個流程中需要的英語內容；向西方介紹中國，從跨文化交際的角度出發，在國際會議和交流中向西方人介紹中國人的思想和文化特點，讓世界更了解中國。
在體例、內容和編排上，《醫學英語學術交流教程》淡化了低年級本科生醫學英語裡重視的語法、句法、醫學辭彙構詞法以及醫學文獻閱讀等方面內容，也弱化了文獻閱讀以及論文寫作等方面能力的內容，而是著重強調學術口語交際能力和跨文化交際能力的培養，以及文化認知、文化對比等方面的知識的儲備和意識的樹立。
