郝少康教授在香港中文大學主修物理副修數學，於1975年取得理學學士學位。他在1981年從紐約州立大學水牛城分校取得物理學博士學位。隨博士後工作後成為Xerox Webster研究中心的研究員，開展固體光學性質研究。五年後，他返回母校——香港中文大學，擔任物理系講師。從講師一路晉升到教授，再到退休，他在港中大一共任教了23年。

教學研究
研究興趣包括：光譜學，光散射，半導體異質結構和納米結構的有機金屬化學氣相生長，液晶和脂質囊泡。在港中大任教期間，他同時參與古文物測試中心工作，套用熱釋光定年法鑑定古陶器的真偽和產地；在先進表面和材料分析中心(ASMAC)，從事表面表征技術的研究，也支援工業界；並且幫助香港科技園搭建了一個類似於ASMAC的實驗室。
社會任職
他曾擔任多家期刊的審稿人，也曾是美國物理學會和材料研究學會的會員。他現是《半導體學報》和《光散射學報》編輯委員會成員。
