發表（1）《中國與勇敢新世界》 China and the Brave New World: A Study of the Origins of the Opium War (1840- 42), 1978, Delhi: Allied Publishers和（2）《海神與龍》Triton and Dragon: Studies on Nineteenth-Century China and Imperialism, 1985, Delhi: Gian Publishing House，兩書都是印度各大學東亞歷史教科書。譚中
曾獲印度社會科學理事會Indian Council of Social Science Research研究基金並於1990年被聘為英迪拉甘地國立藝術中心教授顧問，於1994年發表《段文杰眼中的敦煌藝術》Dunhuang Art: Through the Eyes of Duan Wenjie, 1994, New Delhi: Indira GandhiNational Centre for the Arts & Abhinav Publications。曾多次參加敦煌吐魯番學會、敦煌研究院、香港中文大學在烏魯木齊、敦煌、北京、蘭州、香港舉行的國際研討會並發表論文。
（三）中印交流研究
曾應印度外交部邀請客串編輯《印度地平線》“印度與中國”特刊Indian Horizon，Vol.43, Nos.1-2, Special Issue “India and China”, 1994, New Delhi: Indian Council for Cultural Relations。1998年由英迪拉甘地國立藝術中心出版（1）《跨越喜馬拉雅鴻溝》Across the Himalayan Gap: An India Quest for Understanding China, 1998, New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts & Gyan Publishing House（2）《踏著玄奘的腳印》In the Footsteps of Xuanzang: Tan Yun-shan and India, 1998, New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts & Gyan Publishing House。後者中文版《譚雲山與中印文化交流》於1998年由香港中文大學出版社。又於2004年和北大耿引曾教授合作出版《印度與中國》India and China: Twenty Centuries of Civilizational Interaction and Vibrations，成為印度文明研究中心《印度文明中科學、哲學與文化歷史》大叢書the series of History of Science, Philosophy and Culture in Indian Civilization之第三卷第六冊 （2005, New Delhi: PHISPC/Centre for Studies in Civilizations）。其中文版《印度與中國---兩大文明的交往和激盪》於2006年由北京商務印書館出版。

榮譽：
1978年在墨西哥城舉行的“亞洲及北非人文科學國際學會”Internal Congress for Asian and North African Human Sciences（原“東方國際學會”International Orientalist Congress）擔任學術委員會委員。譚中
1985年被聘為斯堪的納維亞亞洲研究所Scandinavian Institute of Asian Studies訪問學者到丹麥、瑞典、挪威八所大學講演。
