作者簡介
王嵐，1965年出生，1982年考入洛陽解決軍外國語學院，1998年3月於北京外國語大學獲博士學位。現任解放軍外國語學院英語系主任、教授、博士生導師，全國英國文學學會常務理事，河南省外國文學學會常務理事。主要研究方向為英美戲劇、當代英國文學。近年來發表論文20餘篇，包括“《盲剌客》：一部加拿大後現代女性主義的傑作”、“反英雄”等。
內容簡介
全書共分六章。第一章簡要介紹了詹姆斯一世後斯的悲劇在國內外的研究現狀，指出它們在國外學術界的重要地位和國內研究的匱乏，以及本書的寫作初衰，即希望通過對其中幾部重要悲劇中女性角色的研究喚起國內學者對英國文學史上這一重要時期的生視。
第二章主要對比詹姆斯一世後期的英國悲劇與莎士比亞時期的悲劇在主題、人物等方面的異同，揭示它們之間的明顯區別，即莎士比亞時期的英國悲劇男性占絕對的主導地位，而在詹姆斯一世後期的悲劇中占中心位置的往往是女性人物；前者往往以戰爭或政治生活為大背景，後者更多的是對家庭、感情世界等的關注；前者通常有一個個性鮮明的主人公，而在後斯的悲劇中主人公的地位有時會很不明確。
第三章分析了造成這些區別的社會、哲學、文學思潮等各種因素，如作家個人的成長經歷，詹姆斯一世及其宮廷的藝術品味對創作的影響。
第四章探討了所選的六部悲劇中女主人公的性格對各自悲劇命運的影響。
第五章從社會角度分析了導致這些女主人公悲劇命運的因素，如王室成員或貴族的腐敗墮落對社會風氣的影響、父權制對女性的種種壓制、貪圖享樂的思想對青年女性思想的侵蝕、傳統貞操觀對女性追求自由生活的束縛等等。
第六章是個簡短的小結。文學研究的目的之一是對社會、對人有更深入的了解。
