本書選取了英語中40個特殊的修辭格或修辭方法，按兩大類分別對其進行解讀，內容包括定義、例解和用法討論。全書共分5章。第1章是“引言”，說明了本書寫作的動機和目的。第2章論述了直義語言和形象化語言的區別與聯繫，說明形象化語言在語言交際中的各種功能，以及各種辭格或修辭手法對形象化語言形成的重要作用。第3章介紹並討論了增強類的18個特殊辭格或修辭手法，第4章介紹並討論了變異類的22個特殊辭格或修辭手法，第5章是“小結”，概述全書內容。對大多數中國普通英語學習者來說，本書所介紹的諸多英語修辭格或修辭手法，可能皆比較罕見或生疏。作者在撰寫過程中考慮到這一因素，在體例上模仿了一些詞典的做法，每一大類的辭格或修辭手法都按照名稱的首字母的順序進行排列，給出基本定義，提供充足的例句，以方便讀者查閱並理解。同時，本書又從現代語言學的角度，探索了大多數所選辭格或修辭方法的功能、用法及作用。因此，讀者既可以將本書作為一本英語特殊修辭格詞典加以使用，也可以將其作為一本語言學普及讀本加以參考。

作者簡介
韓仲謙，男，江蘇東台人，上海外國語大學英語語言文學博士，主要研究領域為套用語言學和語用學。現為上海電力學院直屬外諾系副教授。
