1999年,羅永章博士回國創建了麥得津生物工程股份有限公司,致力於抗腫瘤新藥的研發。他們在世界上率先研發成功的抗腫瘤蛋白質工程藥物重組人血管內皮抑制素,被評為2005年中國十大科技新聞。新華社、美國華爾街報(The Wall Street Journal)、Nature Biotechnology、Nature Medicine等先後爭相報導。
