《科技英語強化閱讀與寫作》是旨在促進學生課後自主學習的教材，全書分為閱讀篇和寫作篇兩大部分。閱讀篇分為精讀和泛讀，精讀部分精選各類科技英語文章27篇。精讀部分的閱讀文章均配有根據課文特點設計的閱讀理解練習，題量適中，題型豐富，有針對性地考查大學英語教學大綱規定的需要掌握的各項閱讀技能。泛讀部分的閱讀文章目的在於鞏固辭彙，擴大閱讀量，沒有設計相關閱讀練習，教師可以將這部分的文章選作考試材料，鼓勵學生完成該部分的閱讀任務，這樣不僅可以促進學生課後的自主學習，也有利於培養他們掌握正確的閱讀策略和有效的閱讀方法。
