劇情簡介
Facebook、Google 和 YouTube 已經成為人們日常生活的一部分。很多用戶擔心自己的數據會被科技公司作為商品出售，以獲取利益，但實際上，像臉書等科技公司的商業興趣並非是賣掉這些數據，而是通過這些數據做出預判人們行為的模式。Netflix請來Facebook前業務拓展總監、點讚按鈕設計師、圖釘網前總裁、谷歌前設計倫理學家以及推特工程副總裁等網際網路科技公司的從業者，為人們展現網際網路企業、注意力經濟模式，乃至更為巨觀的監視資本主義機制，如何通過大數據技術對用戶進行個性化定製的內容精準投放，從而使用戶逐漸對社交媒體產生病態的依賴心理，侵蝕個體的自由選擇權，並最終在用戶之間營造出信息繭房，進而威脅到整個現代社會的協商民主機制。
幕後製作
該片是傑夫·奧洛威斯基執導的第三部紀錄長片。奧洛威斯基是史丹福大學的畢業生，他認為這部紀錄片是以矽谷“內部人士”的視角所呈現的。該片中除了紀實的拍攝和採訪，還嵌套了一部“小電影”，它根據影片的主題打造，隨著非虛構敘事的深入而展開相應情節的虛構敘事，講述了男孩本和他的家人面臨的“社交困境”。該片的製作公司Exposure Labs 除了參與製作外，還參與了該片的造勢影響活動。
