本教材選取重要的現當代英美劇作家的代表作品,通過指導性閱讀、討論,培養學生理解、賞析戲劇作品的基本能力和必要的技巧;藉助不同的媒介幫助學生感受戲劇的魅力,了解戲劇這一文類的基本特徵、要素、種類和風格。全書共九章,每章由三大部分構成:1. 簡介:包括對劇作家的介紹,對作品所屬流派或戲劇種類的介紹;2. 劇本賞析:對作品的導讀、賞析,節選部分的詳細註解(包括語言點、文化背景等方面的難點)和思考題(可用於課上討論或課外寫作);3. 資源:包括拓展閱讀(引導學生加深對劇本的理解)、作品列表及媒體改編或改寫。
