現為美國新澤西州羅文大學（Rowan University）歷史系教授，國際史學史、史學理論委員會理事（2005-15年間兼秘書長），北京大學歷史系長江講座教授，美國賓夕法尼亞大學（University of Pennsylvania）訪問教授(2008,2010)和普林斯頓高等研究院（Institute for Advanced Study）訪問研究員（2010），英國《中國的歷史學》（Chinese Studies in History(A&HCI journal published by Routledge Taylor & Francis，教育部歷史學A類期刊)）主編，Storia della Storiografia雜誌編委。
主要研究興趣為中外比較史學、史學理論與史學史和中國思想文化史。
