大連海事大學出版社2008年5月第1版的中國海事服務中心組織編審的全國海船船員適任考試培束悼幾訓教材《輪機英語》的第一篇“專業閱讀”中選取了大量英版原文作為課文，每課課文附有生詞與短語表，部分難句還在注釋中作了翻譯。2008年11月，大連海事大學出版社又出版了由黨坤、宋永欣、鄭慶功主編的“《輪機英語》譯文及自學輔導”一書，對上述《輪機英語》教材中的閱讀課文進行了全文翻譯。
然而，船員適任考試培訓教師在使用該《輪機英語》教材的過程中發現了以下幾個問題：
1．教材的生詞舉精厚定表中某些單詞列出了幾個不同的中文詞義，有時甚至列出了這個單詞作為名詞、形容詞、動詞時的全部詞義，等於是代替學員查了詞典，但學員往往仍然不知道課文中是用的哪個詞義；
2．學員對詞語或句子理解不了時會去查閱譯文，但由於某些句子較長、結構較複雜，看了譯文仍搞不清楚哪個英文詞語譯成了哪箇中文詞語、原文的語法結構到底是怎么樣的、為什麼譯成這樣的中文等等；
3．進行全文翻譯的老師們付出了擊拘腿辛勤的勞動，可是有了譯文之後，有些學員就離不開譯文，看了譯文以為自己理解了原文，下次碰到類似結構的英文晚奔辯仍然無法看懂。
鑒於這些問題，本書對課文中學習者可能尚未掌握的單詞和短語編寫了有針對性的英文或中文解釋，對課文中容易發生理解錯誤的長句難句進行了結構分析，對典型的理解錯誤作了警示，有的地方還分析了發生錯誤的原因及提出了如何避免錯誤的建議，己兵屑目的是幫助學習者通過學習課文真正提高英語閱讀水平。
本書對中國海事服務中心組織編審的全國海船船員適任考試培訓教材《輪機英語》（大連海事大學出版社2008年5月祝歸版）一書的閱府悼灶充讀課文中的部分詞句提供了英文或中文註解，對長句難句作了結構分析，對典型的理解錯誤作了警示，供該教材的使用者參考。
