賽事簡介
法國公開賽是歐洲大陸歷史最悠久的國家級高爾夫錦標賽，首屆比賽始於1906年。法國高球巨人阿諾德-馬西(Arnaud Massy)贏得了那一屆賽事。2006年法國公開賽是第90屆。第一次世界大戰和第二次世界大戰期間，法國公開賽都被迫中斷。
1907年，阿諾德-馬西成功衛冕法國公開賽。那一年他也贏得了在皇家 利物浦 高爾夫俱樂部舉行的英國公開賽，成為英國公開賽歷史上第一個奪冠的外國選手。湊巧的是，皇家利物浦高爾夫俱樂部今年正好也舉辦英國公開賽。
新世紀開始， 法國高爾夫聯合會開始了一系列的動作提供這個比賽的檔次。 最重要的一個舉措就是自2003年開始， 去掉賽事的冠名贊助商。 2004年開始採用英國公開賽和美國公開賽使用的資格賽制度， 並且開始對職業和業餘球員開放。
比賽獎金從1999年的86萬歐元增加到2009年的4百萬歐元。 使他成為歐巡賽獎金最高的比賽之一。 受經濟衰退的影響， 2010年和2011年， 比賽獎金回到300萬歐元。
2006年，在贊助商變更為阿爾斯通之後，其獎金將達到400萬歐元。與之相比較，當1972年法國公開賽成為歐巡賽的一部分時，其總獎金只有15,428歐元。
即使與十年前相比，法國公開賽獎金的增長速度也是驚人的，其增長速度達到了400%。1996年，澳大利亞著名球員羅伯特-艾倫比(Robert Allenby)奪冠時，總獎金為84萬歐元，他拿到14萬歐元。而2006年的冠軍可以獲得666,660歐元。
許多著名的球員都贏得過法國公開賽，最近的包括：拜倫-尼爾森、巴雷斯特羅斯、諾曼、桑迪-萊爾(Sandy Lyle)、尼克-佛度、蘭格、古森以及奧拉查寶，不過美國球星參加這個比賽的數量明顯偏低。
