池蟾屬

池蟾屬（學名：Telmatobius）：是兩棲綱，無尾目、池蟾科的一類青蛙，是池蟾科家族中的唯一屬。共有64種。代表物種的的喀喀湖池蟾是世界上體型最大的水蛙，體長74-137.95毫米，口鼻部長度可達14厘米，體重最低250克，最高達1千克。成體短闊，無尾。頭部略呈三角形，頸部不明顯，前肢較短，後肢特別發達，具有蹼，適於跳躍或游泳。有眼瞼和鼓膜。

該屬物種大多數是半水生的，而少數則完全是水生的。生活在安第斯高地的湖泊、河流和濕地的附近，海拔高度在1,000-5,200米之間。食物為蠕蟲、甲殼類和軟體動物。原產於南美的厄瓜多、秘魯、玻利維亞、阿根廷西北部和智利北部。

形態特徵

池蟾屬物種和蛙形目的所有物種一樣，成體短闊，無尾。頭部略呈三角形，頸部不明顯，前肢較短，後肢特別發達，具有蹼，適於跳躍或游泳。有眼瞼和鼓膜。口裂較大，舌可翻出口外捕食。肋骨不發達；額骨與頂骨、尺骨與橈骨、脛骨與腓骨都各自癒合。無交接器。體外受精。卵產在水中，孵化成的幼體有尾，稱為蝌蚪。用鰓呼吸，幼體先長出後肢，再長出前肢，尾逐漸縮短，最後消失。鰓也逐漸萎縮、消失，肺逐漸形成。經過變態發育為成體，主要用肺呼吸。由於肺的結構比較簡單，皮膚起著重要的輔助呼吸作用，皮膚呼吸主要排出二氧化碳。

分子證據支持該屬的物種為單型家族（科、屬），是中大型扁平蛙。許多物種的皮膚鬆弛，呈皺褶狀，特別是水生物種，允許更大的表面積進行皮膚呼吸。代表物種的的喀喀湖池蟾（Telmatobius culeus）是世界上體型最大的水蛙，體長74-137.95毫米，口鼻部長度可達14厘米，體重最低250克，最高達1千克。以其突出的皮膚褶皺而聞名，完全是水生的。該屬包括世界上最大的兩種完全水生青蛙，即朱寧湖池蟾（Telmatobius macrostomus）和的的喀喀湖池蟾（Telmatobius culeus），但其餘的則小得多。

顯著的家族特徵：鼻孔長度中到大口，最大140毫米；頭部扁平，顱骨皮膚不光滑，上頜骨、前頜骨、犁齒呈下彎的方齒，胸骨為軟骨，末節指骨結節狀；腋下抱合。

生活習性

生活在安第斯高地的湖泊、河流和濕地的附近，海拔高度在1,000-5,200米之間。所有的池蟾屬物種都與水密切相關，大多數物種是半水生的，而少數則完全是水生的。食物為蠕蟲、甲殼類和軟體動物。

分布範圍

原產於南美的安第斯山脈高地，在厄瓜多、秘魯、玻利維亞、阿根廷西北部和智利北部均發現過。

種群現狀

池蟾屬共有64個物種。絕大多數物種受到嚴重威脅，特別是由於棲息地喪失、污染和疾病（乳糜菌和線蟲感染），引入鱒魚和為人類食用而捕獲的威脅。

厄瓜多的三種物種已經消失多年，並且可能已經滅絕：1981年最後一次見到的洛哈池蟾（T. cirrhacelis），1994年見到的黑池蟾（T. niger）和1987年見到了韋拉德池蟾（T. vellardi）。同樣，玻利維亞15種中的7種已經多年沒有見到了。
