在病毒與宿主的共進化過程中，宿主為保護其免於病毒的侵染而產生抵制病毒入侵的機制，RNA 沉默是方法之一，存在於多種真核生物中。病毒會產生dsRNA，它是RNA沉默的誘發因子。病毒編碼的RNA沉默抑制因子(RSS)抑制宿主的RNA沉默。對ssRNA病毒的RSS研究較多，在植物dsRNA病毒RSS方面則是一個空白。植物dsRNA病毒包括多種重要作物的病毒，在植物和介體中複製，很難防治。研究這類病毒RS
