本書共五章，即機械與模具製造、計算機數控、電子與信息技術、套用技術（前4章共24單元）和職業現場的交際技能會話訓練（第5章共8篇對話）。前四章每單元包括課文、生詞、專業術語、長難句解析、翻譯技巧、閱讀材料與課後練習。在電子與信息技術篇中，納入了網際網路、4G網路與物聯網新內容；在套用技術篇中，新增了工業4.0、增材製造技術、大國工匠技藝與世界技能競賽等內容。在第四章各單元的實用英語中，分別用相當篇幅介紹了怎樣閱讀機電產品的英文說明書、怎樣讀懂英文招聘廣告、怎樣用英文寫個人簡歷、求職信等套用文體，以及英語面試過程中的常用技巧。第五章彙編了8篇職業現場的交際對話內容。附錄提供了各單元的參考譯文、部分習題答案和生詞表。本書可作為高職高專機械製造技術、模具製造與設計、機電一體化技術、電子與信息技術、數控技術、機電技術和電氣自動化控制等專業的英語教材，也適合繼續教育學院套用型本科機電類專業學生學習，並可供專業技術人員學習參考。
