林道通,研究之主要貢獻在於探討一種新式的可調適延時性類神經網路(Adaptive Time-Delay Neural Network)之特徵,首次使得吾人能對此類神經網路在工程問題的套用方面,了解其可行性。從數學理論探討開始,到展示一系列嶄新的套用成果,顯示此模示之優越能力

壹、論文研究之具體貢獻:

學術貢獻

提供了一種新的類神經網路學習法則,採取神經元累積調適模式,能有效 (effieciently) 及機動地 (dynamicly) 處理多維時間性函式 (spatio-temporal domain)訊號。目前研究成果已被下列書籍所引用為其章節:

貳、研究成果:
。研究成果特點分述如下:
· 本研究提供了更機動及有效的學習法則,將多維時序圖形(spatio-temporal pattern)自動分類。此網路考慮可調適的延時係數,自動選擇過去的重要特徵及變因,合併於目前系統所接收之訊號達到辨認的最佳化,克服了以往此類研究的瓶頸。</font
· 我們提出了一網路展開平行演算法(Network Unfolding Algorithm),並證明可調適延時性類神經網路經此演算法展開後,結果比傳統之前授網路精簡甚多,其網路複雜度降低至少O(n)。
· 同時我們採用學者Funahashi、Hornik等,及Stone-Weierstrass理論,進一步顯示此網路之函式近似能力,並證明其為通用之多維時序函式近似器(Universal Spatiotemporal Function Approximator)。
· 我們以一連串的實驗評估此網路之特性,結果顯示此網路具有相當強韌之耐擾動力(perturbation resilience),一旦網路完成特定圖型之學習後,在相當大程度的雜訊干擾下,均能有效地將變形之圖型還原及辨認,其中圖型還原之能力已為學界所重視。
· 可調適延時性類神經網路已成功地套用在軌跡識別及產生 (trajectory recognition and production)、混沌時間數列預測(chaotic time series prediction)、飛行目標辮識等實例。
