1969-1973,科隆大學任數學研究助理,其中1972年完成數學博士論文,
1973-1978,慕尼黑工業大學數學高級研究助理;
1977年於慕尼黑工業大學獲得數學特許任教資格;
1978-1986年任德國海德堡大學教授並繼龍貝格(W. Romberg)之後、任數值分析的主任教授,
1986-2012任柏林自由大學教授、科學計算的主任教授;
1987-2012,ZIB(Zuse Institute Berlin)院長、學術委員會主任。

所獲榮譽及獎勵

1994年由於對化學工程的基礎性貢獻獲得Gerhard Damköhler獎章,
2000年獲得日內瓦大學榮譽博士學位,
