序言

高職教育要培養生產、服務和管理第一線需要的技能型人才，尤其是在人類資訊時代的今天，科學技術日新月異，全球一體化進程迅速推進，而高水平科技信息主要以英語的形式出現。面對日益激烈的全球化市場競爭，中國製造業正在加速產品與設備的更新、改造與提升，企業對人才的需求也在這一方面有所提高，需要一線技術人員、管理人員掌握一定的專業英語知識，以便在引進、操作、維護進口設備時應對自如，在技術更新時能夠更好地掌握新技術；在工作過程中，及時掌握最新動態，為職業技能的提高助一臂之力。因此，專業英語應當充分發揮其作用，我們應更好地培養學生對專業英語的理解能力和套用能力，使他們掌握專業閱讀必需的專業術語和基本的翻譯能力，從而能夠以英語為工具獲取新的專業科技知識和情報資料，熟練掌握先進生產設備的操作方法。

在高職院校專業英語的教學中，使用難度適中、內容得當的教材尤為重要。我們根據在材料工程技術及相關專業教學實踐中的經驗和體會，結合材料行業生產現狀編寫了本教材。本書共分6個教學單元，每個單元有多篇課文和一篇課外閱讀，課文內容為水泥、玻璃、混凝土、玻璃鋼、建築材料等的材料性能、組成、生產工藝等，重點是材料的生產工藝和設備，每篇課文後附形式多樣的練習題，力求實用、簡單、趣味。附錄部分有英文元素周期表及各類材料分類的辭彙表。本書可作為各類高職、大專、成教、中專的材料工程技術及相關專業的英語教材及參考書，也可作為生產企業的培訓教材。

本書由河北建材職業技術學院武麗華擔任主編，孟秀華、陳國強、安曉燕擔任副主編。具體編寫分工是：武麗華編寫Unit 1、Unit 2，Unit 4的Text 1～Text 6；孟秀華編寫Unit 3；安曉燕編寫Unit 5；陳國強編寫Unit 6的Text 1～Text 4；綿陽職業技術學院喬歡歡編寫Unit 6的Text 5、Text 6和課外閱讀；四川工商職業技術學院王昱編寫Unit 4的Text 7和課外閱讀；秦皇島玻璃工業研究設計院的陳福編寫Appendix；武麗華對全書進行統稿。本書在編寫過程中參考了有關文獻的部分資料，在此表示衷心的感謝！
