1981年，北京林業大學森林保護專業畢業。
1990—1991年，在奈洛比大學（University of Nairobi）動物系、國際昆蟲生理生態中心（ICIPE）學術訪問和研究。
1996年6月，在陝西師範大學動物研究所獲得理學博士學位。
1998年5月，在南開大學生物學博士後流動站出站。
2003年8月－2004年2月，英國自然歷史博物館（BMNH）高級訪問學者。

1．出版專著1部。
2．參編專著或教材14部。
3．最近5年在國內外核心期刊發表學術論文近百篇。
4．先後主持教育部博士點基金、國家自然科學基金等科研項目18項。對鱗翅目小蛾類、生物地理學和濕地多樣性等方面的研究澄清了許多重要學術問題，命名發表了300多個新種，發現大量中國新記錄屬種。改變了以往我國該領域的空白與落後局面，為我國農林業害蟲的研究和有效治理提供了可靠的基礎資料，為世界動物區系增加了許多新內容。
5．指導博士後2名、培養博士和碩士研究生20餘名。森林保護研究成果獲得省部級科技進步二等獎、三等獎；昆蟲系統學成果獲周堯昆蟲分類學獎勵基金二等獎；有2項國家自然科學基金研究成果進行了成果登記。
