1999年獲得北京大學物理系學士學位,2004年獲得中國科學院物理研究所博士學位。2005至2006年在美國哈佛大學物理系從事博士後研究。2006至2012年先後在美國田納西大學物理系任研究助理教授及研究副教授。現為中國科學技術大學合肥微尺度物質科學國家實驗室教授,博士生導師。
主要從事低維納米結構和新型功能性材料的生長機理及其物理化學特性的理論研究。通過利用第一性原理計算電子結構計算、分子動力學模擬、蒙特卡羅模擬等多尺度模擬計算方法,從原子尺度上研究材料的結構穩定性和生長機理,以及如何通過控制材料生長的動力學過程獲得具有某種特性的結構或材料,進而利用第一性原理電子結構計算研究材料的諸如電子輸運、磁性、光學、電子結構的拓撲性、表面催化等物理化學性質,並力圖從理論上設計具有實際套用價值的新型功能性材料或結構,重點主要集中在與清潔能源、自旋電子學及其它與未來微電子學相關的領域。
